TRANSFER PROJECT AS PART OF THE FRAUNHOFER IML INNOVATION LAB FOR BATTERY LOGISTICS IN E-MOBILITY (INNOLOGBAT)

Safety-critical reactions of lithium batteries are difficult to detect at an early stage. Early warning systems using temperature measurement do not yet offer sufficient reliability for the requirements of the market. The MONILOG® GasSensor product takes a new approach.

Unsafe lithium batteries are detected based on escaping harmful gases. The usual reaction gases of a thermal runaway are difficult to produce outside laboratory conditions. Therefore, a realistic test set-up for teaching gas measurement sensors is required. A new type of digital sensor is trained in preliminary tests for desired gas mixtures and is able to recognise these gas mixtures again afterwards. The "recognition" of these gas mixtures during battery accidents represents a significantly improved detection of defective lithium batteries. At the same time, false detections are avoided.

The first MONILOG® data loggers have already been installed and are being used by customers.
